James F. Evans Collection, Ham, Mimeographed, 1994. 1 p. Presented at the Society for Nutrition Education, Portland, OR, July 16-20, 1994., The paper will present the approach taken by Sahelian countries for nutrition education for the public. It will show the synergistic linkages between various media (e.g., rural radio, script, visuals, video, etc.) within an overall nutrition education program. The participatory role of the public as beneficiaries, as well as actors, in the program will be shown. Through this project the institutional capacities of countries for comprehensive nutrition education programs were strengthened through training of technical staff and the establishment of a network for information exchange. Each country elaborated appropriate strategies and plan for a nationwide program on nutrition education. The role of different UN agencies (FAO, UNICEF, WHO) and international NGOs (HKI, AED) in this project is elucidated. The usefulness of the intersectoral and multimedia approach taken for other countries will be shown.

James F. Evans Collection, In: Gajendra Singh, J.H. de Goede, eds. Proceedings of the International Conference on Rural Development Technology : an Integrated Approach, June 21-24, 1977, Bangkok, Thailand. Bangkok, Thailand: Asian Institute of Technology, 1977. p. 35-47., A radical rethinking of how to bring about rural development has been in process over recent years. Many essential elements of what could be called a new approach to development have been identified. The major thesis of this paper is that the nature of this new approach demands a correspondingly new approach to planning for development. Without a new planning system, the changes underlying the new development philosophy are not likely to be implemented. The purpose of this paper is to outline the basic feature of such a planning system, and to indicate how this system is inextricably linked with the hoped for developmental changes. (original).

9 pages., Article # 6RIB5, via online journal., Oklahoma Extension educators encountered barriers related to trainings and program delivery for a caregiver education program produced by Oklahoma State University Extension. Oklahoma family and consumer sciences educators were interviewed about perceived barriers to attending trainings and delivering the program. Findings indicated that staff shortages, program prioritization, challenges in developing an audience, and communication issues with the program team made it difficult for educators to engage with the program. Strategies for improvement based on the findings were devised.
