James F. Evans Collection, Integrating the higher levels of cognitive learning with the process of agricultural writing is vital. This study investigated the behavior of a professional agricultural writer and how that information was transferred to students through four cognitive levels of learning. The agricultural writing framework is based on the cognitive behaviors of planning, translating, and reviewing as well as the social behaviors of dealing with individuals and organization. Those behaviors were incorporated into the learning levels of cognition: remembering, processing, creating, and evaluating. The investigator recommends a number of specific steps in designing learning objectives, activities, and evaluation for teaching novice agricultural writers. (original)
James F. Evans Collection, The writing intensive (WI) program at the University of Missouri is an unique attempt to increase written communication skills within the discipline of study of undergraduate students. A major problem of the WI experience is building of writing skills through revision of written assignments. Analytical and critical thinking skills are also a component of the WI course. The use of written assignments in a poultry production course is outlined. (original)
Agunga, In this article, the author proposes that one way to minimize the rate of project failures is to establish rules which project managers would be required to follow. It is the view of this author that some of these rules may already exist in the form of project formulation guidelines. These guidelines are, in large part, based upon research in development. They include local participation, integrated development, basic needs, women in development, and appropriate technology. These guidelines, carefully followed, have the potential to lead to project success. The problem is that it is the rare project wherein these guidelines have been observed. Thus, the author contends that the codification of these guidelines and other related concepts into standard development rules followed by the establishment of a mechanism to ensure that these rules are adhered to, are the tools needed to dig out of the development crisis.

By doing so, we continually refine our programs for academic content, gain new knowledge to realistically advise our students, and therefore produce graduates who will meet the expectations of our profession. This article looks at selected characteristics of practicing agricultural communication professionals from six professional organizations and give insights into concepts we must consider as we plan our academic programs and advise our students. search through journal, This assessment was requested by AG*SAT, a consortium of land-grant universities created to plan, coordinate, and deliver distance education in the agricultural science. The perspectives of department heads regarding the delivery of credit instruction using AG*SAT and related technologies were assessed. The heads indicated that their departments will subscribe to one-of-a-kind courses and courses taught by nationally recognized faculty. Most of those surveyed support faculty involvement in distance education, but they perceive that faculty need in-service education in order to teach distance courses effectively. Several programming issues were identified that have implications for ag communicators. (original)
