This initiative monitors, manages, and predicts plant diseases using sensors, cloud computing, and data analytics to improve crop health and productivity. Plant and environmental data is monitored by soil, humidity, temperature, and leaf wetness sensors. Machine learning algorithms discover illness outbreak trends and abnormalities in real-time data on a cloud platform. According to the study, a complete IoT infrastructure easily transfers data from field sensors to cloud servers and decision support tools to end-users. Edge computing preprocesses data and delivers only relevant data to the cloud, decreasing latency and bandwidth. This allows fast, accurate disease prediction models to warn farmers of new hazards for proactive management. The study also examines how alternate communication protocols increase data transfer in agricultural fields with poor circumstances. We also explore how geospatial and sensor data accurately map and quantify disease risk. Cloud-based data analytics improves sickness prediction, operational efficiency, and resource management, this study revealed. This integrated strategy reduces plant diseases, herbicides, and fertilizers, improving sustainability. The scalable, cost-effective answers to modern farming problems in this research support precision agriculture.
10 pages, This paper aims to analyze the level of welfare of palm oil farmers and the factors that influence it. The research design employs a survey method. Indonesia smallholder palm oil farmers face complex welfare issues. The study employed a survey-based research design. Farmer’s sampling involved 594 palm oil farmers. Quantitative methodology with an ordinal logit regression model is applied to determine the welfare factors. The welfare analysis is carried out by household expenditure approach. The findings reveal the fact that the majority of smallholder palm oil farmers, whether with independent or partnership patterns, are prosperous. The independent pattern has a higher chance of improving welfare. The household prosperity is determined by the variables age, education, number of family members, land cultivated, palm oil income, household income, and cultivation patterns. The direct connection between farmers and the palm oil industry supply chain in the form of cooperation patterns and factory supply guarantees is a basic prerequisite in ensuring improvements in the level of farmers’ income. The practical implication recommends that strengthening farmers in the upstream production line is a precondition in developing the Indonesian sustainable palm oil industry. The synergy among stakeholders in the fair business value chain framework should start from strengthening farmers in the upstream production line.
14 pages, One of the tools middle school SBAE teachers can use to deliver the total program is research-based SAEs, for which students can receive recognition through the FFA Agriscience Fair. This study examined why middle school SBAE teachers implemented the FFA Agriscience Fair into their programs. This study built on previous literature in this area, but with a specific focus on middle school programs. Using a qualitative case study, seven teachers that had various levels of use with Agriscience Fair were interviewed. Teachers were categorized into their levels of use for this innovation and spanned across multiple levels. Major themes from the interviews emerged that found the Agriscience Fair award area was a tool that teachers used to help strengthen their program by enriching the program offering and providing hands-on learning for students. Themes of teachers learning to figure out the complex rules of the competition to be successful as well as using relationships to help students be successful emerged. Recommendations were made to make the award area more intuitive, especially for teachers who are newer to the implementation including providing examples of manuscripts and presentation materials, providing lesson planning resources, and professional development.

16 pages, It is commonly held that parents have a profound impact on child development. Decades of research investigated the ways parents, the community, and school staff interact to foster student learning during kindergarten through twelfth grade education. Agriculture provides for daily needs through the growth, harvest, and processing of food, fiber, fuel, and forestry products. This research sought to understand the level of importance parents place on their children learning about agriculture in school. A 26-question survey was distributed to a nationally representative sample of parents having at least one child in K-12 education within the United States. Results of this study indicate parents found it important, even very important, for students to learn about many agricultural topics in school. Factors historically associated with parent perceptions and support of student learning proved to not significantly impact this indicated level of importance. Therefore, further research is needed to understand what impacts parents’ value of their students learning about agricultural topics in school. The conclusions of this study are of primary importance to entities conducting agricultural education outreach such as Agriculture in the Classroom programs, Extension, Career and Technical Education, agricultural industry organizations, and others interested in agricultural literacy.
20 pages, Consumers often make decisions on behalf of the self and others, such as family, friends, or colleagues, when choosing products to jointly consume. Postulating that power—a central element of social dynamics—shapes reliance on internal versus external information, the current research explores its effect on joint consumption choices. Across three studies, I find that low-power individuals balance self and others’ preferences, whereas high-power individuals are likely to highlight their preferences (H1). In addition, I provide evidence for decision-making strategy (i.e., reliance on reasons vs. feelings) as the key mechanism underpinning the relationship between power and joint consumption choices (H2). Finally, I demonstrate that this effect is attenuated when individuals have a heightened need for justification, via moderation and mediation (H3 and H4).
18 pages, This study investigated the factors influencing consumers' switching intentions to biodegradable plastic products. Applying a modified Motivation-Opportunity-Ability (MOA) framework, we analyzed the impact of factors such as environmental concern, novelty seeking, negative attitude, perceived consumer effectiveness, green consumer availability, and environmental knowledge on switching intention, while also examining the moderating effect of perceived greenwashing. Results showed that environmental concern, perceived consumer effectiveness, and negative attitude from the motivation dimension, and environmental knowledge from the ability dimension, had significant effects on switching intentions. Furthermore, it was found that the level of perceived greenwashing moderated the effects of environmental concern, perceived consumer effectiveness, and environmental knowledge on switching intentions. This study is significant for its focus on consumer perceptions and behavioral intentions towards biodegradable plastics as eco-friendly products, although there is room for debate about its actual environmental effectiveness. Based on the findings, we present practical implications that include the importance of consumer education, the need for companies to provide transparent information, and policy considerations to strengthen consumer sovereignty.

An estimated 140 million people in Africa face acute malnutrition. By impacting agricultural production, climate change is likely to further decrease food consumption, particularly in sub-Saharan African states. Against this backdrop, various actors have called for more attention to alternative farming and food systems based on traditional agricultural knowledge capable of ensuring access to sufficient, nutritious, and safe food. So far, however, we have limited systematic evidence on which traditional agricultural practices may promote the food resilience of households exposed to extreme climatic conditions. Focusing on the most prevalent traditional diversification practices in Tanzania, this study assesses the extent to which crop diversification, annual crop intercropping, crop-tree intercropping, crop-livestock integration, and the cultivation of traditional crops increase the food availability and dietary diversity of smallholders facing extreme weather events in Tanzania.
Methods
We combine temperature and rain data with information on farming practices and food consumption information provided by the Living Standards Measurement Study–Integrated Surveys on Agriculture for more than 25,000 Tanzanian households nationwide. We rely on a matched differences-in-differences approach to account for selection bias and allow for causal inference.
Results
Our matching models consistently show that the planting of traditional crops (in particular sorghum) promotes dietary diversity and reduces the need for food rationing in households experiencing climate shocks. In contrast, households relying on maize cultivation show less dietary diversity and increased food rationing behavior. In addition, we find that—under extreme weather conditions—crop diversification furthers households’ dietary diversity, and crop-livestock integration, as well as crop-tree intercropping, seem to reduce households’ need to ration food.
Conclusion and policy recommendation
This study has important implications for policymakers. In light of climate change and weather variability, it underscores the need to better integrate indigenous knowledge into farming systems. Our results call for greater dissemination of traditional diversification strategies and more reliance on indigenous, drought-tolerant crops. Traditional farming practices can function as a safety net, protecting smallholders in Tanzania against the detrimental consequences of weather shocks.
27 pages, Despite farmers’ knowledge and awareness of soil health practices and the growing body of evidence indicating their effective use, many farmers continue to reject such practices. To further explore the role of information source credibility in the adoption of soil health practices, we sought to measure wheat farmers’ perceived source credibility of research scientists, Extension scientists, industry scientists, and general scientists and the likelihood they would adopt information about reduced and no-till practices and cover crop practices from these sources. Using an experimental survey instrument, we collected data from 127 U.S. wheat farmers. We found most wheat farmers considered themselves, Extension professionals, researchers, and other producers as scientists when seeking information about soil health practices. Participants perceived other producers, Extension professionals, and themselves as having the most trust with Extension professionals, other producers, and themselves as having the most goodwill. The means and standard deviations of perceived source credibility suggest that participants perceived each information source—general scientists, research scientists, Extension scientists, and industry scientists—as similarly credible information sources about soil health practices with a statistically significant relationship between farmers’ perceived course credibility of the four scientists and likelihood of adopting information about soil health practices from them. Our results did not indicate differences between participants’ perceived credibility of the four types of scientists or their likelihood to adopt information about soil health practices from the scientists. Participating in various income generating activities can improve women’s living standards by providing additional income, increasing agricultural productivity, reducing poverty and improving food security. This study focuses on assessing determinants of women’s participation in income generating activities in Itang special district of Gambella region. Primarily, Itang Special District was selected purposively among thirteen districts and 168 respondents were selected by using simple random sampling method. The data for this study was collected from both primary and secondary data sources. The descriptive analysis revealed that 62 (36.9%) of the households were farm participants, 86 (51.2%) were non-farm, and 20 (11.9%) were off-farm participants, respectively. Correspondingly, the multinomial logit model indicated that education status, household size, land size, livestock holding, access to credit, access to extension contacts, distance to main road, access to training, access to infrastructures, and access to market information is enormously significant variables that affect women’s participation in income generating activities. In conclusion, women’s participation in income generating activities has a greater role on improvements of their means of living. Therefore, government agencies, policymakers, and NGOs should pay attention to strengthening rural women households' participation in various income generating activities to improve their means of living.
