Via online. Policy Research Working Paper No. 4996. 24 pages., Authors explored the impact of access to information on poor farmers' consumption. Results indicated that farmers purchasing a mobile phone experienced larger growth rate per capita consumption over the 2002-2006 period. Estimates ranged from 11 percent to 17 percent.
Online from AgEconSearch., Authors estimated losses in consumption and sales revenue resulting when expenditures for generic advertising and promotion for orange juice were cut nearly to zero, as well as estimated time required for the market to recover from the check-off strategy of nearly going dark. "The research presented here demonstrates that reductions in generic advertising are followed by losses that extend far beyond the period of little or no advertising."

8 pages., Online via Ryerson Review of Journalism website. Published on February 19, 2020., Tara de Ryk, owner and publisher of a rural Saskatchewan weekly newspaper, decided after 21 years to retire from the newspaper business. This article describes how community interest in local news and an adventuresome spirit prompted her to conduct a give-away contest in late 2019. Interested persons were invited to write an essay (500 words maximum) about how they would be ideal owner and publisher of the Davidson Leader. The article describes the contest and winning entry, which led to change in ownership.

search through journal, The study investigates the value of additional information on the response function to soil salinity of a given crop (potatoes), with regard to a stochastic long-run optimization model for utilization of saline water in a single-farm framework. The analysis provides a conceptual and methodological framework for investigating the expected value of sample information (EVSI), as well as an efficient tool for empirical application. Although a few approximations have been used, the results provide an estimate of EVSI and indicate the need for additional information (original)

Online via AgEconSearch., Authors evaluated the impact of varietal awareness and nutrition knowledge on their adoption of biofortified crop varieties. Findings suggested that farmers who had knowledge of the nutritional attributes of a specific variety of beans were more likely to adopt them.

8 pages., Online via UI electronic subscription., Researchers measured farmer demand for a new agricultural technology , a triple-layered hermetic storage bag which reduces storage loss from insect pests and neutralizes aflatoxin contamination in grain. Findings revealed a highly elastic demand that that the wholesaler could increase profit by lowering the price. Farmers who had prior awareness of the bag were willing to pay 20% more on average than those previously unaware of it. Farmers' valuation of the bags was not significantly different based on the medium (text, audio, or video) through which they received the information.
19 pages., Online via UI e-subscription., Authors tested food label and information treatment effects on subjects' willingness-to-pay for organic, "natural," and conventional foods. They found large information effects, including asymmetric cross-market effects for natural and organic foods. Organic premiums increased in response to subjects' seeing the "natural" foods industry's perspective on its products.

This amounts to less than one-quarter of one percent of revenue over the 10 years studied."
