States that Indian agricultural universities have made a great contribution in the fields of agricultural education, research and extension which justifies the investment of public funds. Notes that their important role in solving problems of food and hunger was made possible by undertaking extensive research programs and adopting modern technology for increasing agricultural production and transforming rural life by the transference of technology. Emphasizes the necessity to sustain and expand university libraries if research and development are to continue at the current pace. Characterizes libraries as treasure houses of information resources. Identifies the need to establish a "Network of Agriculture Information System" at the national, international and regional levels in collaboration with agricultural university libraries and ICAR libraries for effective transfer of technology in agriculture.
