James F. Evans Collection, A national study including a mailed questionnaire and personal interviews sought the opinions of human resource managers regarding experience and educational needs of entry-level employees with a BS degree in agriculture. cited reference, IN 1971-2, samples of extension officers in the N.S.W. Department of Agriculture recorded the distribution of their work time to establish the proportion of time spent on direct extension, supportive work and non-extension duties, and to examine the relative emphasis on mass, group and individual extension contact. About half the time was spent on communicating with farmers or preparing to do so, and the individual contact overshadowed group and mass media extension. Major changes in the distribution of work time could be brought about by a redefinition of objectives and improved planning.
