AGRICOLA FNI 92000457, This article will provide an overview of database searching for the nutrition professional. The intent of the article is to introduce nutrition professionals to database searching and help them choose appropriate and feasible methods of searching. The types of databases discussed will be primarily bibliographic. First, a description and comparison of on-line versus Compact Disc Read Only Memory (CD-ROM) searching will be presented. This will be followed by guidelines for developing a search strategy. Last, an overview of databases containing food and nutrition information will be presented. A list of database vendors is provided as an Appendix. (original)
