Subhead: "Are the many alliances and acquisitions among platforms really designed to benefit farmers?" ... "While a data-sharing platform may put growers in the driver's seat when it comes to how their information is distributed, ag tech providers have not always done a good job of communicating that message. 'Problems arise when owners of the data feel as though they no longer understand who is accessing their data and why,' Tatge says."

These materials involve the production and airing of an environmentally sensitive television documentary, "The Price of Bounty," and the considerable controversy that arose from airing it. The program was produced by the College of Agriculture, University of Illinois, through a grant from the Illinois Department of Agriculture with funds provided by fertilizer users. Content involved effects of soil erosion and crop chemicals on the environment, including quality of water supplies. Materials include correspondence, production information, videotapes, newspaper clippings, proceedings of faculty discussions, and other items. They reflect the sensitivities and dynamics in relationships among producers, agribusinesses, communities, environmental groups, farm organizations and universities. They also include expressions of concern in the agricultural community about public perceptions of environmental responsibility, viewpoints about the role of universities in providing information on such matters, and responses by the Department of Agriculture.
