James F. Evans Collection, Washington, D.C. : United States Department of Agriculture, 1926. 20 p. (Department Bulletin no. 1384), With a background of 10 years of cooperative extension work under the Smith-Lever Act, extension administrators and supervisors everywhere are seeking definite information upon which to base decisions affecting the future conduct of the work. Facts rather than opinions are needed. The field study reported in this bulletin was made by the Office of Cooperative Extension Work, in cooperation with the State extension services of Iowa, New York, Colorado, and California. Considerable light is thrown upon concrete problems concerning which extension leaders have long desired reliable information. The determination, in any adequate degree, of the results of extension teaching is a most complex matter. Only some of the most obvious results are here shown. It is hoped the present study mat be the basis for more comprehensive studies in the future. (original)

INTERPAKS; see also C00586, C00587, London: Overseas Development Institute, Agricultural Administration Unit, 1979. (Discussion paper 1). 34 p., Describes past and present practical organization of Botswana's agricultural extension service. Shows the new structure comprised of three main departments: veterinary, agricultural research, and agricultural field services. The most essential change was that all farmer contact, extension and schemes to help farmers were to be organized by of through offices with territorial responsibility. Describes the detailed records that will be kept, the monthly program of the agricultural demonstrators and their report on achievement, the procedure for preparation of annual plans, and the evaluation of the system. Botswana's system differs from the T&V system in its view of the working role and function of the demonstrator himself.

cited reference, The Hague: International Service for National Agricultural Research, October 1990. 10 p. (ISNAR Linkages Discussion Paper No. 8)., This paper focuses on the links between rice research and extension in the Matara District of Sri Lanka. Various formal linkage mechanisms were set up when the training and visit system of extension was implemented nationwide, including regional technical working groups, research-extension dialogues, bi-weekly training, and the use of subject-matter officers as liaison between research and extension. These mechanisms improved the links but could not overcome the poor communication and great social distance between researchers and extension workers. After World Bank project funding ended, the mechanisms could not be fully sustained. (original)
