In this article the author discusses the new wave of Mexican authors stating, "Absent is the exotic, folkloric and politically charged magical realism that writers born in the 1920s and 1930s, namely Colombia's Gabriel García Márquez, Mexico's Carlos Fuentes, and Peru's Mario Vargas Llosa, made popular during El Boom. This generation towered over Latin America's literary scene for years."
