Gamboa is the most relevant of the second generation of Colombian authors that preceed the author of Cien años de soledad. Gamboa says, "Between García Márquez and Alvaro Mutis and my generation there is another trajectory that has been very penalized... They talk about the '40s and '50s. We don't belong to the rural continent, but rather the urban."
