Paper no. 85-5016), The Maryland Cooperative Extension Service established the computer-based Extension Service Telecommunications system (ESTEL) as an additional way to disseminate information to clientele. This videotext system can transmit a variety of information quickly, efficiently, and inexpensively. In this paper, the use of ESTEL (and similar systems) for delivering educational material is explored. Extension Service. Many application programs have been developed for the system, in addition to electronic mail features. The concepts, hardware, and software used to implement the FACTS network are presented.
