Online via Ovid.com. Abstract of dissertation for PhD from the University of Idaho. 1 page., Responding department heads reported no difficulty in recruiting and retaining agricultural communicators. No geographic pattern was apparent in difficulty of recruiting. Tenure was perceived not necessary for agricultural communicators to interact successfully with faculty in academic units. There was no strong support for tenure within agricultural communication departments by department heads.

AGRICOLA IND 87058773, A sample survey was conducted to evaluate five newsletters produced by the Queensland Department of Primary Industries for graziers in western Queensland. The results revealed that readership of the newsletters was high and information had been useful in decision making on properties. Recurrent themes arose in the features respondents most liked in their newsletter. Graziers liked information relevant to their situation, new ideas, practicality, variety, timeliness, clarity of expression and diagrams which assisted understanding. Many graziers recognized intrinsic value in the communication; that newsletters were regular, personal, and locally produced also made them highly valued. The results highlighted the important role of these newsletters and enabled minor distribution problems to be addressed. They also indicated subject areas which could be accorded higher priority.

James F. Evans Collection. Delmar Hatesohl Collection., Rome, Italy : Information Division, Development Support Communication Branch, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 1987. 44 p.
James F. Evans Collection, Farmers and bankers think market advisory services, with quick analyses of agricultural news, are worth the fees, even in difficult times. Ohio farmer Tim Hartsock pays $1,000/year to subscribe to four services, saying fees aren't high if farmers can spread out costs over enough acres. Illinois marketing teacher Gail Hickenbottom tells students that marketing advisory services can offer them a 10% to 15% increase in profit. Illinois banker Wayne Fry says advisory services offer more specific advice than can newspapers and magazines, especially for strategies such as 'PIK (Payment In Kind) and Roll'. Iowa farmer Keith Hora says the two services he uses offer information on federal programs faster than do local government offices. Doane Marketing Research Inc. representative Paul Justis says marketing services can help farmers earn profits in times of low commodity prices. Ag Marketing Services representative Al Kluis says farmers can earn between 50 and 80 cents more/bushel of corn using certificates and forward pricing, and marketing services can help them.
