Consul General of Jamaica to New York, Hon. Herman G. LaMont, has called on Jamaicans in the Diaspora to remember the land of their birth at this time. Addressing members of the Clergy Coalition at a recent meeting at the offices of the Consulate General of Jamaica in Manhattan, CG LaMont said that he was looking forward to this year's Jamaica Diaspora Day of Prayer & Fasting, on Thursday, August 1. 'We firmly and unabashedly believe that prayer changes things and avails much. Please join us in prayer for Jamaica, Land we love. This call and challenge goes out to every denomination, Jamaicans in every walk of life, and all who hold the affairs of Jamaica near and dear to their hearts," noted Rev. -, ON TUESDAY August 6 Karen Stokes, deputy director in the office of Tom Corbett, governor of Pennsylvania, will make by proclamation "Jamaica Independence Week" from August 5 to August 10 each year. Jamaicans and Philadelphians will also have the opportunity to see Miss Jamaica World 2013. Gina Hargitay on Saturday August 10 at Fairmount Park, from 10 a.m to 8p.m.

On Saturday, May 18, 2013, all children are invited for a special free day at A Taste of the Caribbean. Cultural workshops informing and educating children about our rich heritage will be conducted from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The day will be filled with entertainment from the Caribbean and Africa. Interactive workshops will feature the African drum experience, steel pan lessons, kite making, costume making, hair braiding, storytelling, African dance lessons and much more. Food and drinks on sale. Caribbean and African arts and crafts will be on display in the many kiosks and a playground filled with interactive games will entice the kids. In short, culture and entertainment the entire day! Motivational speakers will be on hand to encourage the young minds.
"I was scared for a bit (to come public) because everybody always know me as Novlene Williams-Mills and now they will know me as Novlene, the breast cancer survivor," Williams-Mills said. "It is approaching that time soon, being faced with breast cancer and for me, it is time to start thinking about my family and that is something I want to do soon," Williams-Mills shared. "I am just going to take it month by month and see everything, but I would love to be at the Commonwealth Games. I am not sure about Indoors as yet."
